Donation to Benefit Seniors and Students

Brookfield (Nov. 9, 2016) – Diversified Insurance Solutions has awarded a $5,000 SPARK Grant to Interfaith Older Adult Programs. Each year, Interfaith addresses the physical and social needs of more than 14,000 older adults and caregivers in the Milwaukee area by providing innovative programs, successful solutions and, in many cases, a helping hand. The SPARK donation will support the organization’s RSVP program that engages those who are 55 years and older in volunteer service to meet critical community needs.

“We are very grateful for being a recipient of Diversified Giveback grant,” said Interfaith’s Executive Director, Lisa Bittman. “This type of financial support helps us to continue serving older adults in their homes and offer engaging opportunities for those seniors that enjoy tutoring children.”

The majority of the SPARK grant will fund Interfaith’s Telephone Reassurance initiative. Each morning at a designated time, caring and friendly volunteers contact isolated older adults to check on their well-being and deliver reassurance and support. More than 30,000 phone calls are placed each year to those who are 60 years and older who are living on their own.

“One simple phone call can really make a difference in the daily life of someone who doesn’t have regular contact with others,” says Jim McCormack, co-founder and chairman of Diversified Insurance Solutions. “That contact can lift their spirits for the day and have a long-term impact that enables them to stay living independently in their own home.”

The donation will also provide funding for the MPS Tutor Program. Nearly 200 Interfaith volunteers spend a minimum of 90 minutes per week working one-on-one and in small groups with K5 – 5th grade students on reading and math. The program has been implemented at 51 MPS schools and impacts 3,173 students. And, while it benefits students, it’s also great for the tutors since it keeps them active in the community and taps into their years of life and work experience.

Throughout 2016, Diversified Insurance Solutions is awarding a total of $30,000 in SPARK Grants to nonprofits to positively impact the community and people they serve. The company is interested in supporting specific initiatives, events or actions that can be accomplished with a $5,000 grant or in conjunction with other funds.
